The IC-F31GT/GS series is a range of advanced handportable transceivers, launched by Icom, aimed purely at systems. Incorporating good design and featuring a large capacity for expansion, the new IC-F31GT/GS series contains a wide range of built-in features including 256 channel capacity, a 2-line-LCD display, backlit keypad, wide/narrow 25kHz/12.5kHz channels, multiple tone signalling standards, Flash-ROM and high speed PLL. This makes it the ideal transceiver for small systems as well as large, wide area networks.
The strength of the IC-F31GT/GS series is its versatility. The IC-F31GT/GS is designed on a Flash ROM platform, which enables future system upgrades and future compatibility with other protocols. Featuring state-of-the-art RF technology including a newly designed Fractional-N™ PLL system, the ultra high-speed circuitry provides stable data communications. A new speech compressor (Audio Compander function) provides crystal clear audio under noisy conditions.
The IC-F31GT/GS series has a variety of signalling standards built in, including CTCSS, DTCS, 2 Tone, 5 Tone and DTMF. Both encode and decode functions are also built in. ANI (Automatic Number Identification) identifies the unit in use with the appropriate dispatch equipment. Two levels of voice scrambling are available to safeguard your transmissions. You can choose either the UT-109 Simple Inversion module or the more secure UT-110 Rolling Code module.
The LCD Display is large and easy to read. Utilising full dot matrix characters of up to 2 lines, the user can create a sentence of up to 24 characters. You can also display your own personal icons, programmed from a PC.
The Man Down feature (optional UT-113 required) is an important safety feature for lone workers in potentially dangerous situations. Two internal option slots, not available previously on Icom commercial radios, allow you to combine optional features such as scramblers and man down facilities.
The IC-F31GT/GS features 256 memory channels, which may be selected from either the keypad or the rotary knob. Each channel may be programmed either 12.5 or 25 kHz wide to allow for UK and export use and can be organised into 16 banks. Further customisation of the transceiver may be gained from eight programmable keys, each of, which can be assigned one of 27 different functions.
The IC-F31GT/GS features an attractive ergonomic design. The backlit keypad is easy to use at night or under low light conditions. The body is compact and meets MIL STD grade C, D and E for shock and vibration.
To meet the differing needs of a wide range of users the series is divided into the IC-F31GS and IC-F31GT for VHF and the IC-F41GS and the IC-F41GT for UHF. STOP PRESS - A low band version of this radio and a MPT1327 trunked version (440-480 MHz) with MAP 27 interface will be available shortly - STOP PRESS.
Included with each radio are a rapid charger, belt clip, comprehensive handbook and a NI-MH rechargeable battery (which is designed for 10 hours operation). To give added confidence each model has a 2-year warranty. A comprehensive list of accessories is also available.
Government, army, or blue light organisations for many years have occupied the VHF low band range. However in recent years, these users have moved to other band ranges that use digital systems. This has left the band open to new users such as public utilities and transport companies.
Icom now have a product to take advantage of this market opportunity. The IC-F31GT-L/GS-L (66-88MHz) VHF low band handheld inherits not only the rounded stylish design and durable construction, but also the multiple features that have made the IC-F31/41 GT/GS series a success. We are confident that this low band transceiver will satisfy those users who require a high-grade handheld transceiver.
A first in the market*, the Digital Ready** IC-F4029SDR is compliant with ETSI TS 102 490 and EN 301 166-2 specifications. Unlike other models on the high street, the IC-F4029SDR is truly a professional transceiver. It shares the basic electrical and structural design with the IC-F3022/F4022 series of PMR radios. However with the introduction of the latest 6.25kHz ultra narrow digital voice technologies, the IC-F4029SDR bring users better communication versatility and quality because of digital clarity, razor sharp signalling performance and less congested dedicated digital PMR channels. With fantastic sound quality and great features this product will create new dimension in communications for commercial and private users alike.
(* Researched by Icom as of February 2006.)
(**Ofcom to shortly to release the digital section of PMR446)
DIGITAL PMR 446 FEATURES
The IC-4029SDR utilizes 4FSK/FDMA modulation and 6.25kHz digital narrow channel spacing, which is half the channel spacing of the existing analogue PMR 446 system. This way, the 100kHz band width allocated for digital PMR 446 is efficiently divided into 16 channels, or twice the current analogue voice channel capacity making this product incredibly spectrum efficient.
A Path from analogue PMR 446 to digital PMR 446 in one unit
By changing the channel setting, the IC-F4029SDR can be used on existing analogue PMR 446 channels. This provides users with an upgrade path from analogue PMR 446 to digital PMR 446 in one unit. Being analogue / digital compatible, any businesses or private users currently using analogue PMR446 can begin replacing their analogue radios with IC-F4029SDR and enjoy digital quality as well as relief from congested spectrum.
32-status messages
32 codes of prefixed status messages can be sent and received. 16-character messages and 6 types of alert beeps sound that for call reception, are programmable for each message.
“Common ID” group code
This function is similar to an analogue CTCSS/DTCS code. By setting 1–254 common ID codes, the IC-F4029SDR opens its squelch only when a matched code is received. It provides quiet stand-by and group call functions while sharing a channel with several groups. The code “255” is the fixed code for an all stations call.
Security of digital voice‘Eavesdropping’ by current scanner receivers is impossible at this stage. Since there are no other competing radios, initial users will have a high level of security in digital voice communication mode.
Additional Digital Features
Whether you are a large-scale construction site, warehouse, hospital or shopping centre, the new IC-F34G/F44G series provides the built-in flexibility to handle your communication needs. Offering advanced features including a wide frequency range, multiple signalling and loud audio, the IC-F34G/F44G series is a rugged and reliable 2-way communications tool.
