The IC-M31 Li-Ion version comes with the BP-241 Li-Ion battery pack and BC-162 desktop rapid charger as standard. Originally designed for the IC-M90E & IC-GM1600E these new accessories can be used with the IC-M31 providing you with the option of selling up a Lithium Ion battery solution to the thousands of IC-M31 owners in the market place. Lithium-ion batteries allow flexible charging and have almost no memory effect.
Please note that the BP-241 is not compatible with the IC-M21. Although the BP-241 can be attached, the radio will not operate correctly.

The BC-162 automatically distinguishes between various Icom batteries without the need for charger adapters.
JIS Grade 7 waterproof protection
The IC-M31 has waterproof protection, equivalent to JIS waterproof specification grade 7 *. Equivalent to IPX7 of the corresponding international standard IEC 60529 (2001). 1m depth for 30 minutes.

The new optional waterproof speaker-microphone HM-165 will allow the IC-M33 to float when attached. The waterproof screw-type connector is provided to prevent water intrusion.

600mW audio output provides loud and clear audio
The IC-M71 employs a bridge-tied load (BTL) audio amplifier to increase the audio output power. Its internal speaker delivers a loud 600mW audio output with clear sound even in noisy environments. In addition, a water draining support function ejects water from the speaker grille with low frequency sound.

BC-166 'Smart Charger' supplied as standard
The standard BC-166 charger indicates when your battery has been charged. After approximately 10 hours when the battery has been charged the light will change from Orange to Green. After approximately. 13 hours the charger will automatically switch itself off.

A wide viewing angle, high resolution LCD is used in the IC-M71, offering bright, easily read characters. The LCD’s contrast and backlight are adjustable in 2-levels.
2 versions available (with or without voice scrambler)
The IC-M71 is available with a 32-code voice scrambler circuit incorporated as standard. This is the equivalent to the UT-112 scrambler, which will allow you to communicate with other current IC-M1EuroV’s with UT-112 scramblers. This will allow you to talk to colleagues without other parties hearing your conversations.

VOX function for hands free operation
With the OPC-1392 headset adapter cable you can use a variety of optional HS-94, HS-95 or HS-97 headsets*. The IC-M71 has VOX (Voice Operated Transmit) capability for hands-free operation. Also, the VOX gain and VOX delay time are adjustable.
* Headsets, HS-94, HS-95 and HS-97 and OPC-1392 are not waterproof.

The multi featured IC-M71 is an ideal transceiver for a variety of commercial and leisure boat owners. The advanced features will appeal to a range of commercial operations such as sea-transport companies, Marinas and Port Authorities as well as Search and Rescue organisations such as HM Coastguard, RNLI and National Coastwatch stations. Such will be the value of this radio that it will appeal to a range of leisure craft users from Jetskiers to ocean going yachtsmen.
Designed with particular emphasis on commercial use the IC-M87 is a high class business marine handheld that meets both marine and simple Private Business Radio (PBR) applications*. Compact and with a tough construction, the IC-M87 meets military standard requirements (MIL-STD) and is built to the same waterproof standard employed by the IC-M1EuroV and IC-M21.
*An appropriate licence will be required.
The IC-M87 can be used for both marine and basic PBR applications . A simple push of a button changes the operating band between marine and PBR channels. Up to 22 free channels are available for land use (146¡V174MHz). Wide/narrow channel spacing is programmable for each channel, and CTCSS and DTCS signalling is built-in.
Although aimed at the commercial users, the IC-M87 is ideal for leisure boat users who want a premium quality compact transceiver. The IC-M87 has an abundance of standard features including dual and tri watch, tag and priority scanning, an adjustable button-beep tone level, signal strength indicator, sub-channel display and battery indicator.
All controls are large and easy to use, and have been carefully designed and positioned to provide the simplest of user interfaces at all times on land or sea. Even when wearing gloves, the large buttons are easy to operate. In addition a large, clear backlit LCD and backlit buttons provide instant recognition of data and ensure reliable communication in any lighting conditions.
The IC-M87 comes with the BP-227 Li-Ion battery pack as standard. The battery's 1700mAh capacity allows longer battery life; a maximum of 15 hours* operation, without memory effect of the battery. An optional AA alkaline battery case, BP-226, provides a convenient back-up and great reassurance in an emergency. The IC-M87 has a powerful output power of 5 watts ensuring the reliability of your communication with the standard battery pack, even over long distances. To save on battery consumption, the user can reduce the output power to 3 Watts or 1 Watt.
An intrinsically-safe (IS) version of the IC-M87 will be available soon for use in hazardous environments on land and at sea, such as oil rigs, natural gas tankers, etc. The intrinsically-safe version will have a built-in voice scrambler with 32 codes that will be compatible with the UT-112.
Coming with an extended 3-year warranty available, the IC-M87 is supplied with the BC-152 Slow Battery Charger, BC-01 Charger Adapter, BP-227 Li-Ion Battery Pack, FA-S59V antenna, MB-79 Belt Clip and handbook. The BC-152 desktop charger can also be mounted on a wall and will accept various power sources such an AC adapter, cigarette lighter LEAD, or DC power supply.
The IC-M87 has a wide range of optional accessories available including the HM-138 waterproof speaker microphone. The optional rapid desktop charger BC-119N and multi-charger BC-121N are also available to charge the IC-M87 in 2.5 hours (AD-100 charger adapter is required).
